Wordy Wednesday-Vitriol (caustic)

Today’s word: Vitriol (noun): Vit-tre-el meaning caustic.

I love words that describe tone of speech. Vitriol is a word I’m slipping into my writer’s tool chest for later use.

Definitions include:

1). Something felt to resemble vitriol especially in a caustic quality; especially: virulence of feeling or of speech (vitriolic).

2). A sulfate of any of various metals (as copper, iron, or zinc); especially : a glassy hydrate of such a sulfate

Synonyms are even more fun: acidity, acidness, acridity, acridness, asperity, bile, bitterness, cattiness, corrosiveness, mordancy, tartness, virulence, virulency, acrimony

I love words! And I love to read! So each Wednesday I’m going to grab an unfamiliar or unusual word I’ve discovered and post the meaning. Definitions and further explanations can be found at Merriam-Webster.com/dictionary/

Happy Reading, Cyndi
